Welcome to Lisa King Yoga. I'm so glad you are here. I'm Lisa. A certified yoga teacher, menopause movement specialist and menopause coach/doula that wants to help you thrive during mid-life. I have over 6 years of experience with movement and working through my own menopause journey. I know perimenopause to post-menopause is different for everyone and I love working with women to tailor a program specific to their goals and needs. Basically, I got you, girl! I am 56 and I love being a women in this season of my life! I love yoga and mindful movement and the impact it has had on me as I transitioned through menopause! MY STORY Ambitious, driven, high achiever, straight A student, Enneagram 8, control freak. Passionate, rebellious, strong and full of sass. Life of the party. A doer, not necessarily a feeler. The busier, the better. Divorced, single mom, remarried and step mom. That was me from birth to age 45! I loved my life! Then, holy crap! I hit a wall!
You see, for years (really all my life), I didn't nurture myself or put myself first. I ate like crap, didn't move my body, didn't sleep enough, worked 24-7, mommed relentlessly and basically was completely disconnected from physical and emotional self. I hurt all over; my back, my knees. I was moody, high strung, tired. I realized if I wanted to life to be 100, and a sassy 100, something had to change. Then I made my way, thanks to my daughter, to my first yoga class at Barefootworks Yoga in Lexington. It was the first time in I don't know how long, I felt my body, I connected with my body. I started to fall in love with ME!
Yoga and has helped me navigate the stuff that midlife brings with it; anxiety, mood swings, changing body shape, sleeplessness, empty nesting, AND even peeing my pants( LOL, but if you know, you know)! It has helped me trust my body, my mind and my breath. And I want to share it with Y-O-U!!!
WHAT TO EXPECT IN MY YOGA CLASSES and WORKSHOPS My Yoga journey has really impacted how I teach my Yoga Sessions. My body has evolved in midlife and I don't want or need the same things I did when I first started my practice. That's why I love designing customized sessions. In your private sessions, we start with your goals and needs first. Movement is slow and mindful whether you are building strength or increasing flexibility. Think Yoga Basics with a little embodiment and curiosity thrown in! Perfect for all bodies and ages, but especially great for women in the middle season of their lives! A LITTLE PERSONAL DISH I am a mom, wife, retired elementary teacher, registered yoga teacher, daughter, sister and friend with a little bad ass thrown in! I am a self proclaimed bibliophile, lover of yoga and movement, outdoor explorer, lover of people and Netflix binge watcher (when I'm not reading of course)! My favorite yoga styles are Basic Flow, Slow Flow, Restorative and fusion workouts of pilates, yoga, somatics and strengthening. And I absolutely love sharing yoga with women, breaking the stigma of aging and living my bad ass best life!
