Buh-Bye New Year Resolutions!!

Stop! Right now! Don't do it! I'm serious, soul sisters.
I mean, I always did it, then three days into January, I'm calling myself unmotivated, unfocused, a failure! I read all the how to blogs, the tips and tricks, but nothing worked.  I'm talking about New Years Resolutions.  

Here are a few interesting facts about New Years Resolutions (incase your a challenger like me, if not just skip this part!)

• According to a 2016 study, of the 41% of Americans who make New Years resolutions, by the end of the year only 9% feel they are successful in keeping them. * *These are not good odds, ladies!
• In 2019, one survey found that more than half of Americans wanted to be healthier – 59% wanted to exercise more, 54% said they would eat healthier, and 48% resolved to lose weight.  **I mean being healthier is a great aspiration!

A Different Approach: One Word

So, I want to live an intentional life,  I aspire to be my best self. I do need focus.  But the rebel in me hated the rigidity of a resolution.  That is why about 5 years ago I changed my focus from resolution to Word of the Year.  One simple word to guide me through the year, set my intentions and flow.  A touchstone, gentle reminder to keep me on course.

2021 WOY: GROW

This year I chose Grow as my word.  And December is the time when I sit and journal, reflecting on my WOY.  Simply listing things.  How did I Grow? I took a hand lettering class, went to style school, formed an LLC for my Yoga Business and went to the dentist ( I have severe anxiety)! and that's just the start of my list.  I'm starting to consider my 2022 Word.  It often takes me days, even weeks, to sift through how I want to feel mindfully and land on a word.
