Five things you may not know about me: I love to dance! I love to hike and explore! I love riding my Jimmy Buffet Cruiser Bike! I love to paddleboard (in my pool) and I hate to ask for help (carrying in groceries, hanging that big self or moving the furniture) I'm super independent and plan to live to be at least 100! And feeling good in my body is numero uno for me. It's one of my top three goals as I thrive in midlife on my way to being a centenarian. So while on my self love life journey, a few years ago, I had a come to Jesus moment; I went out to dance the night away and could not get out of bed the next morning! My knees couldn't take me shaking my tail feathers! Shortly after that, I injured my self sleeping, no shit! Just woke up one morning and couldn't lift my right arm above my shoulder!! Can you relate? WTH was happening?! Even my yoga practice didn't feel great! So guess what? I got a personal trainer, yes, me the girl who always preferred restorative yoga! And ladies, it has been a game changer! Even if you don't dance the night away or bicycle, think about this; If you sit in a chair, you squat. If you pick up your groceries from the floor, you deadlift. If you lift your grandkids over head, your doing an overhead press. If you like to hike, you need strong legs and core. Strength training is one of the best ways to love up on yourself! It's ahimsa, loving kindness at it's best! It builds capacity for all the daily tasks and things you love to do helping to reduce pain and prevent injury. It builds bone density reducing frailty and I just say it makes my diva confidence bubble right on up to the surface. (FINGER SNAP!) So here you go! Four of my favorite ways to integrate strength into my yoga practice: 1. Goddess Squat plus a weight or kettle bell 2. Over head press in Chair Pose. 3. Warrior 3 dead lifts. 4. Dead Bug with weight overhead. Want to see these poses in action? I've posted a short video over in the Freebies section of by website. Look up top and click. |
