3 Ways to Get Rid of Mom Butt (and Ease Low Back Pain at the Same Time)

Girlfriend! Is your butt droopy? or as you've gotten older have you lost it? or if your like me, it's  got bigger but lord, not stronger! And what about low back and hip pain after sitting or standing for a while? I mean we can't all have a Kim K booty or gorgeous, voluptuous Lizzo ass but hey we can all feel "Good as Hell!"(Stop right now and sing along!) with the butt we have!

First, many of us can thank our kids for our mom butts! I mean we love 'em, but pregnancy can wreak havoc on our bodies.  When we carry or sweet babes, our abdominals aren't as supportive as they once were and we start gripping our butt under to stay stable (not your fault, it's what our beautiful bodies do).  This continues postpartum and imbalances are created. I've been doing it for 29 years!!

By adding some strengthening and movement through a fuller range of motion, our glutes get happier ( so does our back). So in your yoga practice, try these THREE things: 

1.  Add a band around your legs in Bridge pose and push out into the band when you lift up and SQUEEZE! that booty! Repeat for ten reps. Don't have a band, just push your knees out and resist.
2.  Add some weight to your One Leg Mountain pose.  I love an 3 pound  dumbells but kettlebells also work fine.  Instead of holding your pose for balance practice, march alternating legs for 10-12 steps in place.

3.  Add leg lifts to your Table  pose.  Bend one leg, like you are going to kick the ceiling and do some little pulses.  You can add a Yoga Tune Up ball behind your knee for extra engagement or a band under your grounded knee and looping around lifted knee. (see pic)  These are great to add when your in yoga class and the teacher gives you some time in cat/cow to play around.  Just add a few donkey kicks!
